🥟 Chao-Down #99 Chatbot for eating disorders gets taken down after bad advice, The end of the Softbank-backed pizza robot, AI deepfakes used for true crime TikToks
Plus, startups are diving into ChatGPT to meet demand for therapy.
Despite the myriad challenges that plague AI chatbots (i.e. hallucinations, inability to stay on topic and remember past conversations), one major challenge is simply cost. Today’s AI chatbots lose money on every chat.
Because of the infrastructure needed, like advanced AI chips that only a small number of hyperscalers have access to, the ChatGPT, Bing, and Bard bots of the world represent a huge cost. And that does not mention the potential legal liabilities that can pile on in the event the AI produces a bad response.
Companies are still finding ways they can actually monetize AI with the usual culprits being advertising and subscriptions. But even with all that, the question remains, will chatbots ever make money?
