Shuterstock’s deal with OpenAI to license its images is likely to be the first of many deals in this space as generative AI becomes more mainstream. It makes sense that the owners of the original data, namely the creators who upload their photos to sites like Shutterstock, should receive a cut of the money made from using models like Dall-E and Stable Diffusion.
