🥟 Chao-Down #67 Reddit looks to cash in on LLM boom, Microsoft develops own AI hardware, People use ChatGPT as a therapist
Plus, FTC warns AI could 'turbocharge' frauds and scams.
Platforms that own valuable datasets may soon find another revenue source, licensing them to large language model creators.
Reddit is taking steps to charge companies to access their APIs, which for companies who are building AI models that use this data to train, will incur a real cost.
In particular, Reddit’s data is made up of real human conversations that are regularly updated which make them valuable as training data for chatbots and large language models.
What will this mean for companies like OpenAI who very likely used Reddit as part of their training corpus? Will they face a retroactive bill? And will more platforms begin charging for data access? We’ll have to see to find out.
