Autonomous agents are now the hottest topic in AI.

Two experimental open source projects, in particular, have captured much attention on social media: Auto-GPT and BabyAGI. These projects are designed to create an AI agent that can generate human-like responses without human intervention.

At a high level, Auto-GPT takes output from GPT-4 and feeds it back into itself with an improvised external memory so that it can further iterate on a task, correct mistakes, or suggest new directions.

While the projects were meant to be fun prototypes, several people are already considering the broader implications of having AI agents that can think, reason, and take actions all by themselves. Is AGI among us?
