The most interesting story from the past weekend was a report from Semafor on how Stability AI, the creators of popular open-source image generation model Stable Diffusion, is burning through cash as it seeks to figure out how to monetize AI.

Despite a huge following and over $100 million raised, it goes to show how finding profits in AI is a tough task, especially when a company builds on top of open-source technology.

The competition is fierce and likely only a small handful of companies will ultimately survive.
