🥟 Chao-Down #27: Supreme Court hints at Generative AI Liability, HuggingFace joins hands with Amazon

Plus, AI for Gene-Editing that could replace CRISPR

A brief comment during a Supreme Court hearing could ripple across the generative AI landscape. In a hearing on a case about Google and free speech, Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch briefly mentioned that generative AI tech could be an example of what's not protected under Section 230.

The Communications Decency Act protects internet services and tech providers from liability for what users post on their platforms. It’s a hallmark legislation and has allowed companies to escape legal issue for hosting inappropriate content on their websites.

However as generative AI is producing more and more text, images, and media on the open web, that content is being indexed by search engines and surfaced to users as recommendations.

Definitely worth watching this space.
