🥟 Chao-Down #22: Amazon's self-driving car launches on public roads, AI generated selfie apps see a decline in use

It seems like it was just yesterday that everyone was posting AI-generated avatars of themselves all over social media. Headlined by apps like Lensa, these products offered to create stunning fantasy-like images with just a few uploads of yourself.

However, that hype seems to be dying. Data from Apptopia shows that despite an initial surge during the holidays, demand has quickly leveled out.

When the underlying AI models powering these apps are open-source, fragmentation without differentiation is the likely outcome.

So have we really gotten tired of taking AI photos of ourselves? Or has competition eaten up all the margin and opportunity for such apps to exist?
