Are we reaching an inflection point in self-driving cars?

Waymo and Cruise recently announced they were expanding their geographic footprint with the former adding the city of Austin as its next launch site. Meanwhile Tesla, or more specifically Elon Musk has said all that’s left to solve is vehicle control.

In Elon’s words:

And this doesn’t even cover the work already being done by companies like Aurora in readying a commercial launch for their self-driving trucking operation.

Maybe we will see full-self driving sooner than we think. Or are these moves to try to appease an ever-growing group of impatient investors? Let me know what you think.
