Plus, Korea bans the use of AI profile pictures for national ID cards

Researchers from the University of Maryland have made a breakthrough in 3D scene reconstruction using artificial intelligence (AI) and reflections in a person's eyes.

By imaging the eyes of a moving individual, the team collected multiple views of the surrounding environment through the reflections in the eyes. Overcoming challenges such as accurate eye pose estimation and iris texture, they developed a method that utilizes the approximate geometry of the cornea and trains a radiance field on eye reflections.

The technique, based on previous neural radiance field (NeRF) research, successfully reconstructed a room in 3D, offering intriguing possibilities for leveraging accidental visual signals to enhance scene reconstruction.

Exciting times ahead!
