One use case that is not often mentioned with self-driving cars is the increased ability for surveillance and law enforcement.
The San Francisco police department have made multiple requests to companies like Waymo and Cruise for videos from their logs to help them solve crimes like robberies and even murders. Because these robot cars are outfitted with a ton of different sensors, many of them capturing video, cities have found them to be useful tools in resolving some of law enforcement’s trickiest cases.
The question is, are we okay with this level of encroachment in privacy in exchange for more security?
