🥟Chao-Down #11: Madison Square Garden in hot water over facial recognition tech

Happy Monday! With all the buzz on language models in the last few weeks, it’s easy to forget what’s going on in computer vision. Rather than covering the latest breakthrough, the central story over the past few weeks has instead been controversy over its application. Madison Square Garden has been using facial recognition tech to deny entry into its venue to people ranging from rowdy fans to high-powered attorneys representing clients unfavorable to MSG’s owner James Dolan.

The case has bubbled up all the way to New York State legislators and could cause ripple effects into how corporations are allowed to make use of computer vision tech for non-security purposes. We’ll have to see how this unfolds.
