How is AI being used by the US intelligence agencies and spies?

We just got a glimpse of that from a Bloomberg report highlight how Microsoft has been building an air-gapped version of GPT4 for organizations in charge of the nation’s security and defense.

How to Work for the CIA: Do You Want to Be a Spy?

According to the report, the unnamed AI service is meant for intelligence agencies to use the reasoning and processing powers of large language models to handle classified data while mitigating risks of data breaches or hacking attempts.

Unlike its popular cloud-based versions, this version of GPT has no access to the internet and is locally run in an Iowa-based supercomputer which prevent it from accidentally leaking data or being intercepted by bad foreign actors.

While details beyond that remain scarce, it’s a fascinating look at how the US government is embracing this latest wave in AI.
