Are we about to see Teslas roaming the streets looking for people to taxi?

Elon Musk has long touted the company’s autonomous driving capabilities and has envisioned a future where Tesla owners would be able to earn money by having their cars Uber people around. In Tesla’s latest quarterly results, that vision took one step closer to becoming a reality.

The company showed off several screenshots of what the experience would be using a Tesla based ride-hailing app. While these are initial designs, they show off the company’s ambition to be more than just an electric vehicle automaker.

From their report:

We have been investing in the hardware and software ecosystems necessary to achieve vehicle autonomy and a ride-hailing service…

We are currently working on ride-hailing functionality that will be available in the future. We believe the Tesla software experience is best-in-class across all our products, and plan to seamlessly layer ride-hailing into the Tesla App.

Will this app actually come out? And for Tesla owners, would you put your car on the robotaxi network?
