Plus, an inside look at how AI is reshaping the fashion trend forecasting industry.
Could AI be the cause of world war? Some foreign policy experts studied LLMs and found that if left unchecked, that could be a likely possibility.
A new study using AI in foreign policy decision-making found how quickly large language models would call for war instead of finding peaceful resolutions. Some AI models from OpenAI even launched nuclear warfare with little to no warning, giving bizarre explanations for doing so.
Researchers from Georgia Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Northeastern University, and the Hoover Wargaming and Crisis Simulation Initiative tested several AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta in war simulations where they acted as the main decision makers. They found that OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 were more likely to escalate situations into severe military conflicts than other models. On the other hand, Claude-2.0 and Llama-2-Chat behaved more peacefully and predictably. The study also observed that AI models tend to exhibit “arms-race dynamics” that lead to increased military spending and escalation.
It’s a glimpse of how AI can be used in the military. The question is, are we ready for it?
