It looks like Google is running into some snags getting their best large language model out the door. The Information is reporting that Google has to delay the release of Gemini, a model that is supposed to compete with OpenAI’s GPT4, until at least the first quarter of next year.

Following the many AI and Copilot announcements from Microsoft, it seems that OpenAI (and thus Azure) is pulling ahead of the closed-source model fight especially in the holy grail of enterprise adoption.

Does the delay speak to the challenge of releasing a next generation model that can be truly differentiated? At the very least, OpenAI wins this round.
