Plus, Microsoft to cover legal costs of Copilot AI enterprise customers if they get sued for copyright infringement.

Microsoft is making a big bet on the tech governing the generative AI inside their various enterprise Copilots. In a blogpost called “Copilot Copyright Commitment”, Microsoft Chief Legal Office Brad Smith writes:

“If a third party sues a commercial customer for copyright infringement for using Microsoft’s Copilots or the output they generate, we will defend the customer and pay the amount of any adverse judgments or settlements that result from the lawsuit, as long as the customer used the guardrails and content filters

This follows a similar move by Adobe earlier in the year where they said they would cover any legal costs associated with use of their enterprise image-generation Firefly product.

It’s certainly a flex that only the biggest tech companies can offer. Will it work to convince enterprise buyers?
